Fly Fishing

Wishing to travel and fly-fish is a habit of fly-fishers. Fly-fishers look into the water whenever and wherever they find water, look for fish, and swing around their rods if they have. If not, they will shake uncontrollably.

There are not only one spot to fly-fish in Kakegawa but two! Not so many fishermen want to tell strangers their special spots. Here, however, I will break the ban and tell you the special information of fly-fishing.

There are wonderful rivers you can fly-fish in Kakegawa.

One is the upper stream of “Haranoya River” at a camp site called “Narakoko-no-sato.” There is a catch-and-release fishing spot in the river there. This river runs through typical Japanese farm lands. Beautiful fish called “Amago (red spotted masu trout)” are protected in this river. Anyone who pays a fishing fee and keeps rules of fishing can fish Amago trouts. If you have a proper fishing skill and are lucky enough to catch them, you can get a feeling of closeness to the beautiful “Amago” trouts. You can go to “Narakoko-no-sato” by bus from the Kakegawa Station.

The other one is the “Fishing Spot Exclusively Managed for Feather Jigs” at the “Sumiyaki-no-mori Camp Site” on the farthest north of the city of Kakegawa. This river, running through the nature with few residential houses, gives you a beautiful stream of water with the green and sun through the trees.

You can enjoy the complete catch-and-release system in this fly-fishing site, where you release all fish you catch. Beautiful Amago trouts are preciously raised at the fish farm located next to the camp site. This fly-fishing spot is operated by reservation only. Once reserved, you can enjoy a fly-fishing all day. A peaceful day off, a calm, beautiful river, and a fly rod – this is the happiest scenery ever to a fisherman.

These two spots have a closed season. The closed season for the rivers in Japan is mainly from October to February/March. You can enjoy fishing from March or April (maybe it is too cold in March to both you and fish) to the end of September. I’m sure you, as a nature-lover, will use a barbless hook and release the beautiful fish you caught without giving any damages and watch the fish go with love.

Let’s wish a good luck for fly-fishers who travel Kakegawa.

Wish you to meet the beautiful fish.

Wish you to make a wonderful memory of traveling Kakegawa.
